Dying To Live

Walking With Jesus-Divine Will Calendar From The Writings Of Servant Of God Luisa Piccarreta

September 13, 1919
The soul must die to her own life in order to live from the Life of Jesus.

Luisa- My bitternesses grow, and I do nothing but lament to my always lovable Jesus, telling Him: ‘Pity, my Love, pity!
Don’t you see how I have reduced myself? I feel that I no longer have life, nor desires, affections or love; all of my
interior is as though dead. Ah, Jesus, where in me is the fruit of your many teachings?’ While I was saying this, I felt my
sweet Jesus near me, binding me over and over with strong chains. And He told me:

Jesus- “My daughter, the surest sign and the
seal of my teachings within you is that you feel nothing of your own. And then, isn’t the living in my Will exactly this – to
dissolve oneself in Me? How can you go searching for your desires, affections and other things, if you have dissolved
them in my Will? My Will is immense, and it takes too much to find them. And in order to live in Me, it is better to live
no longer from your own life; otherwise you show that you are not happy to live from my Life, and to be completely
dissolved in Me.”

Scripture Meditation- 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If any one serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me, the Father will honor him. (John 12:24-26).

Prayer Reflection- O Lord we love You, we bless You, and we adore You because the closer we get to You, the emptier and drier we can feel. And yet You reassure us that this is a good thing because it means that, rather than losing what Your teachings mean to us, they are actually taking root. Because You want us to not live from our personal desires and attachments but to live entirely from Your Life! You tell us elsewhere in the Gospel that no servant is greater than their master (John 13) and in the Second Reading of the Mass today that none of us live for ourselves (Romans 14). You want to live in us but we must surrender our own lives and our human wills to Your Holy Divine Will. Lord for most of this this won’t happen at once, with Your Grace it will be little by little, bit by bit. Let us choose one area in our lives today that we have not yet surrendered- an attachment, a preference in our daily routine that may be taking the place of prayer, our own personal goals and pray throughout the day Jesus I surrender myself to You, thy Will be done! Fiat!
